We will jump right into our Session 8 study.

Turning Bitterness to Forgiveness
Does the following math equation look familiar?

You've probably heard of or read the Bible story where Peter asks Jesus a question about forgiveness and Jesus (who is always on point and never shocked at our questions) responds so directly:
~ What's the Point?~
Priscilla opens up Chapter 9 with the following:
"If I were your enemy, I'd used every opportunity to bring old wounds to mind, as well as the people, events, and circumstances that caused them. I'd try to ensure that your heart was hardened with anger and bitterness. Shackled through unforgiveness."
Wow, at the time we may not see it, but the chain of bitterness and unforgiveness can weigh us down and over time we may not recognize the person we have become or the opportunities missed to serve and love others as God has called us to do. In other words yo be disciples and fisher-women.
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
To love. To forgive. Why? Freedom
Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
Take a look at the proclamation of Christ to us in Luke 4:18-19:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." 19
It takes courage to forgive. Realizing that unforgiveness is a yolk of slavery is not always easy to see, but once you realize and remember who you are in Christ, oh my, watch out!

Here's a prayer format to start loosening the yolk:
Praise- for your freedom
Repentance- for unforgiveness you have been harboring
Asking- asking for a heart that can genuinely forgive (speak the name(s) of those who've hurt you out loud.
Yes- commit to responding actively in any way that God's Spirit might lead you (or urge you to do so). (Adapted from FerVent, page 167)

Prayer “empowers and ‘charges up’ every other piece so they can be used effectively against the enemy. Without prayer… your armor, cannot, will not, be infused with the power that only God’s-Spirit can give."
Closing Thoughts-
Know that through the Holy Spirit you can:
· do things you couldn't;
· feel things you didn't; and
· know things you wouldn't.
