Commitment, Time, and Construction

Heavenly Father strengthen us as we pour out so that You can pour in and lead us as we pour forth in Your name. Amen

February 8, 2021

Good Morning Princesses,

28 Days of Commitment

This month we are focusing on 28 days of commitment. Below is a recap of the directions:

  1. First, think about one thing you want to do or work towards during the month of February. (February commitment)

  2. Next, write a letter of commitment to God. Pour out your desire to grow spiritually by praying and reading Scripture regularly. (Letter of commitment to God)

  3. After you have written down your February commitment and completed your commitment letter to God, lay them both next to you.

  4. Finally, pray on Proverbs 16:3 (Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans).

  5. Each day pray on your February commitment and letter of commitment to God.

This week our commitment conversation will focus on one key verse:

Let's recite the Philippians 1:6 together...

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Listed as one of the most commonly quoted promises it the Bible, Philippians 1:6 was authored by Paul to the Phillippian Christians. In a letter full of hope despite his own disappointments, trails and hardships throughout the course of his ministry, (i.e., calamities, betrayals, persecutions, imprisonments, shipwrecks and more) Paul thanks the believers of the Phillipi church for their generosity and support to his ministry. He confidently reminds the church that no matter what, God who started a good work in them would be committed to finishing the job. (See, Victor Kubik, "God is Committed to Finishing What He's Started in You" , December 2012) .

The Lord will finish the work He started for me. O Lord, Your loving-kindness lasts forever. Do not turn away from the works of Your hands. (Psalm 138:8)

What does this mean for you and I today? Here's the summary in three sentences:

1. As believers, our heavenly Father who started His work in us will see it through to completion.

2. God does not start something without finishing it!

3. The work is a continuous process.

What's most interesting about the sentences above is number 3. As stated by Grant Richison in his September 1995 commentary on Philippians 1:6

God will either work in us, or He will work on us, but He will finish the job. He will finish it whether we want it finished or not!

I have a little smile as I read Grant's last sentence, "He will finish it whether we want it finished or not!" Wow! As a child of the Almighty, God is consistently at work, determined and committed. It is a continuous process, so stay calm. We are under construction!

As John Piper cites,

The fact that God is at work in his people, changing the thought patterns and preference of our sinful nature, so that we love what He loves, retooling the grooves in our brain, knitting together the complex strands of our emotional wounds with infinitely greater skill than the world's foremost micro-surgeon--there's no greater promise than this.
It is nothing other than the New Covenant promise of Ezekiel 36:26-27: 'I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you, I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes.'"

A Quick Look At Ezekiel

This week in Ezekiel Chapter 29 we will be begin discussing a four-part judgment on Egypt. It is "the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day" that God s words are given to Ezekiel to cast judgment against Pharaoh. Can you guess the word?

Pride.

Proverbs 16:18 tells us that "Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall."

Over the course of the next four chapters, God will reveal not only His judgment against Egypt, but He also tells us the nation that will be charged to deliver the judgment. Bablyon. The same nation where children of Israel have been exiled.

AMEN

Yes, Lord.

Prayerempowers and ‘charges up’ every other piece so they can be used effectively against the enemy.  Without prayer…  your armor, cannot, will not, be infused with the power that only God’s - Spirit can give."
